What are CEREC Same-Day Dental Crowns?
CEREC is a state-of-the-art system that allows us to create dental crowns in-office instead of needing to rely on an outside laboratory. Our CEREC unit includes an infrared camera that can take detailed pictures of your teeth from a variety of angles, special software that can be used to design a dental crown that has been fully personalized for your specific needs, and a milling unit that can carve a restoration out of a block of porcelain.
The Process of Getting a CEREC Same-Day Dental Crown
Before doing anything else, we will need to examine your tooth, evaluate how severe the damage is, and determine whether you’re a candidate for a CEREC same-day crown. If you are, we can move forward with repairing your smile with the following process:
- The tooth in question will be carefully prepared. A bit of enamel will be taken off the sides as well as the surface used for biting and chewing.
- We’ll use our CEREC infrared camera to capture images of the prepared tooth.
- Our CEREC software will take the images created in the previous step and use them to determine the proper size, shape, and color for your crown.
- The final design of the crown will be sent to the CEREC milling unit, which will then create your new restoration according to the specifications given.
